I’ll admit pre-vegetarian days, I always disliked beef steaks. People often thought I was crazy when I would say that. It is one of the reasons I transitioned into the vegetarian world many moons ago. However, Grilled Cauliflower Steaks, well now you are talking my language!

This garden twist on a grilled steak is right up my alley. It is the perfect vegetarian substitute for those who still love firing up the grill.

Furthermore, these Grilled Cauliflower Steaks is a great side dish for those who still eat meat! Although, I do use it as my main dish, and I am always 100% satisfied!

Best of all, if you would like to make this vegan than simply omit the cheese and use a vegan option or just leave it the way it is. It is just as delicious without cheese.

For the Basil Pesto I use the recipe found here. It is quick, easy and vegan!

A little tip, I love to dip any grilled vegetable in hummus. Try dipping it in this Sun-dried tomato Basil Hummus to compliment the pesto beautifully!

Ingredients

1 head cauliflower

1 TBSP olive oil

Basil Pesto recipe

½ cup fresh parmesan or other sharp cheese such as Piave

Instructions

  1. Grease a BBQ safe grilling pan
  2. Cut cauliflower carefully in 1 inch steak slices from head to core
  3. Lightly brush cauliflower slices with olive oil front and back to further prevent sticking
  4. Brush steaks with the basil pesto until both front and back are well covered.
  5. Grill on BBQ for 8-12 minutes or until cauliflower steak is tender to your satisfaction
  6. Top with cheese and serve immediately
