As my garden is now in full bloom, there is nothing I love better than the smell of basil lingering through our backyard. Basil seems to double and triple in size so quickly that I am always looking for ways to use it up before the little creatures’ nibble at them. Basil pesto is an excellent way to use up that fresh basil.

Vegetable gardens can be tricky when you have a small space or no outdoor space at all. However, basil plants are rather easy to maintain and can often be done even in your home. Check out ‘Feathers in the Woods’ post on how to grow and maintain basil here.

There are so many things I love about Basil Pesto. Firstly, it stores very well in the fridge and freezer. I make multiple batches of it in the summer and freeze it for the winter months.

Secondly, Pesto is so dang versatile. We literally put it on everything in our household. Whether it be crackers, bread, pasta, vegetables, pizza and even eggs. The list goes on and on.

Lastly, it is so easy and fast to make! Not to mention it only requires 5 ingredients.

Ingredients

3 cups fresh basil

¼ cup olive oil

1/3 cup walnuts

1-2 cloves garlic

¼ tsp salt

Instructions

  1. Add all ingredients into a food processor and blend until desire consistency is reached.
  2. Store in refrigerator until ready to use.
