Any type of nut butter is a staple in my pantry. More specifically, what I love about almond butter is the subtle sweetness it provides yet it has little to no sugars. Almond butter is a great addition to snack time whether it be spread on fruit, added to crackers or toast, or mixed in with your favourite energy bar recipe!

Now I get it, almond butter can be crazy expensive to buy which is why I prefer to just make my own. My trick is to wait for almonds to go on sale and then buy whole bunch and make my own. It reduces the cost and also puts you in control of what goes into your food. I often create variations to my almond butter by adding cinnamon or even protein powder for a little something extra.

The only equipment you will need for this recipe is a food processor and your oven. So have those ready to go along with some raw almonds and let’s make some almond butter!

Easy Peasy Almond Butter Recipe

raw almonds
roasted almonds

Ingredients

500g raw unsalted almonds

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 325F
  2. Place almonds on baking sheet. Ensure they are spread out evenly on the sheet so that they do not overlap.
  3. Put almonds in over for approx. 20 minutes depending on oven
  4. Once the almonds become aromatic and begin to crackle remove from oven.
  5. Monitor the almonds for the last 5 minutes to ensure they don’t over cook
  6. Almonds will continue to crackle once removed from oven.
  7. Allow almonds to completely cool.
  8. Add to a food processor (you may need to do this in batches depending on size of food processor)
  9. Process almonds until they reach your desired consistency stopping occasionally to scrap down the sides. I did about 15 minutes to reach my desired creaminess.
  10. Store in sealed glass jar in cupboard and enjoy!
